I bought my first GSP Puppy in 1976, when we made friends with people who owned one and immediately fell in love with the breed. A couple of years later we bought a full grown male(Schonjager Nicholas) and decided to start breeding them. The pup I bought in 1976 was called Brymont Sniffy - thus that is where “Brysnif” eventuated.
Our first litter was born in 1979 and was shocked when 15 puppies arrived. From that litter came our first champion, Ch. Brysnif Hannalore. Hanna’s litter brother Brysnif Noble Nick CD was our first obedience champion.
The time had come to expand and we bought another male puppy from Cheralex Kennel in NSW. Hector became our next champion. When we later put Hector to Hanna we became shocked again when they produced 15 puppies too. From this mating came one of our biggest winners, “Ch Brysnif Braun Warrior’. Saber was titled by 12 months of age and took out Puppy of the year(Lockyer Valley KC) and also took out Runner-up dog of the Year in the same year. Saber also became successful in the field.
In 1982, we moved to a large property in the Lockyer Valley and once again decided to extend the number of dogs. We bought a male and a female pup from Tirriki Kennels in South Australia. The male was named “Tirriki Quail King” and the female, “Tirriki Rochana Deetoo”. When Deetoo turned two years of age we had her mated to Qld’s top winning GSP “Ch. Jinfrau Jubal”. From this litter was 2 top winning dogs “Ch. Brysnif Zachary”(titled by 11 months and also successful in the field) and “Ch. Brysnif I’m Adam” a best in show winner in North Queensland and was owned by D. Price.
In 1986 I fell pregnant with my 3rd child and I took time out to raise my son.
But in 1996 I decided it was time to come back and I bought an English Springer Spaniel from Kevin & Dawn Farmer(Oakspur Kennels) in Queensland. Being around GSP’s again in the show ring, I could not help myself and decided that I had to go back to my first love. We had to start from scratch and bought 2 bitches from Australia’s top winning kennel “Heiderst”. Alex & Raylene Smith sent us up 2 puppies which we showed and they became our new foundation bitches. Their names were “Heiderst Daniela”(Deni) & “Heiderst Taffata N Lace”(Taffy).
I was very successful with my Springers and titled Ch. Oakspur Black Label and was only points off titling Stephdie Merry Pants when she died from cancer aged 20 months. We bred 3 litters of springers and from our first litter came the most successful multiple Best in Show winner Grand Ch. Brysnif Aristocrat owned by Paul Bazzocco in North Queensland.
English Pointers was also a breed we touched and we bought our first pointer from Tintookie Kennels in W.A. “Tintookie Moonlight”(Lucy) was our first pointer champion. We only bred 2 pointer litters and one of our puppies resides in Switzerland.
In 1998 we bred Heiderst Daniela to Gr. Ch. Ziguener Nimrod owned by Joanne Simpson(Kruz Kennels). This litter produced Ch. Brysnif All That Jazz who was owned by Joanne Windle & J Sharland(Chicabud Kennels, Qld).
“Heiderst Taffata N Lace”(Taffy) was bred in 1999 and from that litter came Ch. Brysnif Cherry Blossom now owned by Heiderst Kennels in S.A. Ch. Brysnif Exquisite Style(Squizzy), another Taffy daughter was born on Anzac day 2000 and at only 11 months of age was awarded Best of Breed at Toowoomba Royal. She was titled at 15 months of age and at 17 months of age she was Runner-up in Show at the GSP Champ Show (QLD). “Squizzy” has over 250 challenge points and is now semi-retired from the ring. From Taffy’s last litter came Brysnif Leather N Lace(Lacey) and Black & White bitch Brysnif Latest Style(Tessa).

In 2002 we moved to where we now live, a beautiful 6 acre property set in the hills just outside of Rosewood. Rosewood is a small country town only only 40 mins from Brisbane it is a well known coal mining town. We are very happy to be so secluded with no neighbours for miles and the scenery is picturesque. The dogs are very happy and have lots of land to hunt on, with plenty of rabbit, quail and pheasant.
2003 was a big year for us as we bred 3 litters. I flew to Heiderst for 2 matings. ‘Brysnif Cherry Blossom” was mated to “Gr. Ch. Heiderst Peer Gynt” and “Ch Brysnif Exquisite Style was mated to her Grandfather, Ch. Heiderst All That Style.
The 3rd litter was a surprise but produced one of our favourites Brysnif Martini On Ice(Marty) who we know has a big future.
After five years searching the net we finally decided to buy frozen semen from America. We fell in love with the very white GSP “ International Ch. NMK’s Image to NV,MH (Tigger) and in May 2004 the semen arrived in Australia. In November 2004, we had “Brysnif Leather N Lace artificially insemenated with “Tigger’s” semen and on Sunday January 9th at 3pm Lacey’s first semen puppy arrived by 11 pm all 12 puppies had been born, 9 males and 3 females. The second USA semen litter produced 15 puppies!! A record I think for frozen semen GSP litters. Thirteen puppies survived and at least 5-6 of them are going to be shown. Watch out for the “IMAGE” litter.!!
2005 saw Brysnif export our first dog to Hawaii. Brysnif Tayla Maid was exported to Hawaii in November 2005.
2006 should be an exciting year for us. We hope to get a couple of dogs show titles up, our import will arrive this year and we are also exporting a dog to a show home in the USA. The GSP National is also this year and we are hoping to get to Victoria.
We hope to have some fun and successful show days ahead of us and hopefully we will buy another import in the near future. Hopefully Brysnif Gundogs will keep continuing in the future as we have Grand Daughter’s who are starting to take an interest in our dogs.
